THIS IS THE BANK HOLIDAY SHAKE-DOWN!
Welcome Summer to our City with a cracking line-up of bands ranging from Gypsy-Jazz to Trip-Hop and Soul to Electro and Cuban Rhythms.
An all-day street party, Arboretum Records is giving you fantastic bands… on a BUS in Trinity Square (behind Waitrose)!
Maniere Des Bohemiens – www.myspace.com/manieredesbohemiens
Enjoying success as an exceptional Midlands gypsy-folk-jazz ensemble, they’ll have you begging for more. The Bodega Social was pumping full of Eastern-European energy in 2009’s Hockley Hustle: ‘the walls dripping with red hot fiddle playing, jaunty accordion sounds and had the audience almost literally swinging from the rafters. It was perfectly debauched sight with music to match (Leftlion)’.
Captain Dangerous – www.myspace.com/captaindangerous
The perfect blend of Rock n Roll with swing wizardry, this band will get you grooving to some seriously infectious summer vibes. Their happy-sexy pop will have girls feeling gorgeous and boys ready to woo! Their set up includes trumpet, double bass, accordion, violin!!
Basement Forte – www.myspace.com/basementforte
Formed in November 2009 this band have not stopped out-doing themselves with every performance. Completely unique in their hip-hop, trip-hop, drum&bass hybrids, they continue slashing stereotypes, and enjoy it thoroughly. There’s 5 vocalists, ranging from MCing to all out soul singing, a flute, saxophone and lots of effects pedals. The stripped down drum kit makes it raw, blues guitar sexy and versatile bass pumping.
Captain Cor Blimey and the Governors – www.myspace.com/captaincorblimey
Tropical and exotic, this band have a sizzling set that’s full of variety and spice. A combination of perfect timing and great attitudes from bass, guitar and brass section compliments the multitude of beats thanks to a great drummer and fantastic percussionist. Jazzy vocals from a female lead adds heat that takes you to Spain and back. Caliente!
Will Jeffery – www.myspace.com/willjeffery
Scintillating, smooth and sultry, Will gives a vocal performance even more beautiful thanks to honest, clever and refreshing lyrics. Playing with a humorous slant he entertains his audiences with great stage presence and then wows them further with gorgeous Damien Rice-esque vocals. He’s often accompanied by a double bassist/accordion player and more recently, percussion!
Sam Kirk – www.myspace.com/samuelkirk
It’s really not hard to understand why Sam’s had such critical acclaim recently. We’re really proud to have him onboard the Arboretum Bus because he’s so genuinely talented that Nottingham needs to realise the treasure they’re hosting!
Jay Thomas – www.myspace.com/jayhannahthomas
I don’t want to do Jay an injustice by calling her Nottingham’s Amy Winehouse, but that’s the quickest way to get the point across. She’s strong, passionate, versatile and almost insatiable in her modern soul and jazz vocals. There isn’t another singer like her, it’s goose bumps from the power and butterflies from the beauty in her voice.
Yunoishi – www.myspace.com/yunioshi
Electric wizardry and funked up indie, they’re that band people name-drop. They’ve had TWO tracks used for different car adverts, been on Maida Vale, and played Trent FM Arena! They’re poppy yes, but more breaks and electro: it’s dance music with a bit more structure and less repetition, think Prodigy. You’ll love it, especially when friends like Korg and Kaoss come out to play.
Tim McDonald - www.myspace.com/timmmcdonald
Moody blues laden folk from a Nott’s music veteran, despite his youthfulness. Soundtrack-worthy tunes full of uplifting yet strangely dark vocals that put you in a certain mood, like driving through the dark with the windows down. It’s oddly exciting even in the down-tempo moments – for fans of Dylan, or for Nottinghamians, Hhymm.
